Which BIS-recognised labs are in Hyderabad?
Hyderabad has 11 entries on BIS's Group-1 lab list of 30 October 2026, including one at Isnapur[1]. For CRS electronics, one lab does almost all the work: Vimta Labs (OSL 6102906) is the only Hyderabad entry recognised for IS 13252 (Part 1), IS/IEC 62368-1, IS 616 or IS 15885 in our LIMS search[2].
Vimta's headline charges are low: Rs 45,000 for IS 13252 and Rs 80,000 for IS/IEC 62368-1[2], against national medians of about Rs 63,750[9] and Rs 1,25,000[3]. No Hyderabad lab was recognised for IS 16046 batteries[2].

What can Vimta Labs in Hyderabad test for BIS CRS?
On 1 November 2026 Vimta's 6102906 entry was recognised for IS 13252 (Part 1), IS/IEC 62368-1, IS 616, IS 15885 and parts of IS 302[2]. That covers adaptors and power banks, laptops, Bluetooth speakers, set-top boxes and LED drivers.
Its IS/IEC 62368-1 price of Rs 80,000 is broken up on LIMS line by line across the clauses on electrically-caused injury, fire, hazardous substances, mechanical injury, thermal burn and radiation[3]. Check LIMS for any clause exclusions before you send samples[9].
How do you read the BIS lab list for Hyderabad?
Each line of the BIS Group-1 list gives a lab's name, state, whether it is private or government, its OSL code, the date its recognition runs to, and a remarks column with any suspension history[1]. The OSL code is the lab's unique BIS identity[10], so use it, not the name, when you compare the list with LIMS.
Three things on the list trip people up. First, one company can have several entries: separate units, separate addresses or separate OSL codes, each recognised for different standards. Second, the remarks column records old suspensions that were later revoked, so a long remark does not mean the lab is suspended today; read the most recent line. Third, the list says nothing about which products a lab can test. That is on BIS LIMS, searched by Indian Standard number[11], which also shows each lab's charges, exclusions and validity[9].
Our tables join the two: we took every Hyderabad entry on the Group-1 list[1] and matched it by OSL code to LIMS search results for 14 standards that importers use most[2]. A blank against a lab means it holds none of those 14, not that it holds no recognition at all.
Which Hyderabad labs are suspended?
One Hyderabad entry carries a current suspension: ABB Global Industries and Services' low-voltage breakers and switches laboratory, suspended from 30 April 2026[1]. It is a switchgear lab, so it is unlikely to matter for consumer electronics importers, but it shows why you check the latest remark.
Other Hyderabad entries show older suspensions that were later revoked; read only the latest remark. A report from a lab during its suspension is not accepted[12].
How much do Hyderabad labs charge for BIS testing?
Vimta's headline charges are below the national medians for every CRS standard it holds: Rs 45,000 for IS 13252, Rs 80,000 for IS/IEC 62368-1, Rs 50,000 for IS 616 and Rs 30,000 for IS 15885[2]. The national IS 15885 median is about Rs 45,000[13].
One lab is not a market, though. With a single local option, compare a quote from Delhi NCR, where 46 operative labs hold IS 13252 at a median of Rs 50,000[2], and weigh queue time as much as price. Declared charges cannot rise for three years unless the standard changes[10].
How do you send samples to a BIS lab in Hyderabad?
Generate the test request on the CRS portal first, choose the lab there, then ship the sample with the portal's QR code on it within 60 days[6]. A recognised lab will not accept a CRS sample without an online test request[14].
Foreign makers sending samples into Hyderabad should read importing samples for BIS testing first.
- 1Confirm the standard
Find the Indian Standard for your product on the BIS CRS product list or with the approval checker. Electronics are moving to IS/IEC 62368-1, with the old standards withdrawn after 1 November 2028[15].
- 2
- 3Ask for a written quote and sample count
The number of units depends on the product and the tests; one lab's terms say it tells the client once the test programme is fixed[16]. For model coverage, follow the series guidelines: one sample for every ten models in a series, worst case first[17].
- 4Raise the test request
On the CRS portal, enter category, product, models and brands exactly. These cannot be changed later; cancel and redo the request before testing starts if you spot an error[18].
- 5Pack and ship
Paste the QR code on each sample or packet and send it within 60 days of the request[6]. Do not put the BIS Standard Mark on samples[19]. Foreign makers should read importing samples for BIS testing.

How long does BIS testing take at Hyderabad labs?
BIS does not publish a testing time. One compliance firm reports around 10 to 15 days of lab testing for a typical CRS product, then 10 to 15 days for BIS review[20]. Treat that as a planning figure, not a promise.
Because one Hyderabad lab carries the city's CRS electronics work, ask Vimta for its queue in writing, and have a second lab in another city ready.
The official clock around testing is fixed, and it is what you should plan against.
| Stage | Limit | Source rule |
|---|---|---|
| Ship sample after raising the test request | Within 60 days[6] | CRS portal |
| Lab issues report after tests end | Within 7 days[10] | Lab Recognition Scheme |
| Lab keeps sample remnants | At least 3 months from the report[10] | Lab Recognition Scheme |
| You file the BIS application | Within 90 days of the report date[7] | BIS grant of licence guidelines |
| BIS decides a clean application | Expected within 20 working days[7] | BIS grant of licence guidelines |
What do Hyderabad importers test most?
The local lab base points to IT, audio-video and LED driver testing through Vimta, with the other recognised labs serving chemicals, pharma and building materials[2]. For lithium-ion battery packs, LED bulbs, toys or helmets, no Hyderabad lab appeared in our search, so plan to test in Bengaluru, Chennai or Delhi NCR.
Bengaluru is the nearest region with battery labs: four operative labs hold IS 16046 there[2]. Wireless products also need WPC ETA, which uses its own RF test report, not a BIS report.
Which BIS office covers Hyderabad?
BIS's Hyderabad Branch Office is at Plot No. 1, Survey No. 367/1, ZTS-NFC Main Road, Industrial Development Park, Moula-Ali[4]. It comes under BIS's Southern Region, whose regional office is in Chennai[5].
For CRS you deal with BIS online through the CRS portal[6]; the branch office matters for ISI licences, inspections and surveillance. See BIS consultants in Hyderabad for local help.
Does BIS have its own laboratory in Hyderabad?
Yes. BIS's Hyderabad Branch Laboratory is in the Industrial Development Park, Moula Ali[5], one of five BIS branch laboratories alongside Bengaluru, Patna, Guwahati and Jammu[5].
BIS's own labs test samples from its certification schemes[10]. For a CRS test request you pick a recognised lab on the portal.
What does a first CRS registration cost with a Hyderabad lab? A worked example
For one power bank model, budget the lab charge plus BIS's processing fee and small fixed fees, then add GST. Using a Hyderabad lab as the example:
- Lab test: Vimta Labs, Hyderabad declares Rs 45,000 for IS 13252 (Part 1) on LIMS, excluding taxes[2].
- BIS processing fee: Rs 25,000 for each year, paid in advance[8]. Under the 2018 table it was Rs 50,000 once[21].
- Application fee: Rs 1,000[8]; annual licence fee: Rs 1,000[8].
- GST: charged on every BIS fee[21], and the lab adds tax to its declared charge.
So the government and lab amounts before tax are the lab charge plus Rs 27,000 in year one (Rs 1,000 application, Rs 25,000 processing and Rs 1,000 licence fee), then Rs 26,000 a year. A second model in the same application adds Rs 20,000 per extra test report on the BIS side[8], plus another lab charge. Indian micro enterprises and start-ups get 80% off the processing fee, small firms 50% and medium firms 20%, until 31 May 2029[8]. Courier, consultant and AIR fees are extra and not set by BIS; see BIS CRS fees, the fee calculator and the power bank guide. The test standard is IS 13252 (Part 1), moving to IS/IEC 62368-1.
Worked example: retesting a speaker range to IS/IEC 62368-1 in Hyderabad
A Bluetooth speaker brand registered under IS 616 must move to IS/IEC 62368-1:2023; IS 616 and IS 13252 (Part 1) stand withdrawn after 1 November 2028[15]. BIS's guidelines require full 62368-1 reports for every lead model by that date[22], and migration through the Standard Revision option carries no BIS fee[23].
At Vimta's headline Rs 80,000 per report[2], three lead models cost Rs 2,40,000 in lab charges before tax. At the national median of about Rs 1,25,000[3], the same three would cost Rs 3,75,000. Speakers with Bluetooth also need WPC ETA at Rs 10,000 per model[24].
What goes wrong with lab testing in Hyderabad, and how do you fix it?
Most delays come from paperwork around the sample rather than the test itself. These are the problems that cost importers the most time.
- The lab is suspended mid-test. BIS does not accept reports a lab issued while suspended; you send fresh samples to another lab[12]. Check the remarks column before you ship. In Hyderabad, the one suspended entry is a switchgear lab.
- Wrong model or brand in the test request. Details in the request are locked; cancel it before testing and raise a new one[18].
- Report and label do not match. BIS's January 2025 advisory requires model numbers, category and label ratings in the report to match the portal and the product[25]. See common BIS CRS rejections.
- The report goes stale. Reports older than 90 days at filing are refused[7]. Prepare documents before the sample reaches the lab.
- A lab or agent promises speed for a fee. Recognised labs may not use agents or pay referral commissions[10]. Be wary of anyone selling a 'guaranteed' slot.
- Critical components lack certificates. Where a standard requires component conformity, BIS accepts a BIS mark on the component first, then a BIS-accepted lab report, then IEC/UL/VDE certificates[26]. Collect these before testing.
How do you check a Hyderabad lab before you pay?
Check three things in this order: the lab's current status on the BIS Group-1 list, its recognition for your exact standard on LIMS, and the scope of its accreditation. All three take ten minutes and cost nothing.
- Group-1 list. Find the lab and read the latest remark. Six labs across the five big regions were shown as suspended on the 30 October 2026 list[1], and some entries show a validity date that had already passed with no remark[1].
- LIMS. Search by IS number[11] and confirm the validity date, the product scope and any excluded clauses[9]. Labs declare their charges here and cannot raise them for three years unless the standard changes[10].
- NABL. Recognition requires ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation covering the standard's tests[10]. NABL's site has a 'Verify Certificate' option for this[27].
Once the report arrives, use how to read a BIS test report to check it before you file.
How does Hyderabad compare with other lab regions?
On headline price and choice, Delhi NCR leads on every main CRS standard, Bengaluru is the dearest, and Chennai and Hyderabad have one CRS electronics lab each. The figures below count operative labs per region and give the median headline charge excluding taxes[2].
| Region | IS 13252 (Part 1) | IS/IEC 62368-1 | IS 16046 | IS 15885 |

| Hyderabad | 1 lab, Rs 45,000 | 1 lab, Rs 80,000 | None | 1 lab, Rs 30,000 |
| National (all labs on LIMS) | 68 labs, about Rs 63,750[9] | 46 labs, about Rs 1,25,000[3] | 72 entries, about Rs 80,000[28] | 52 labs, about Rs 45,000[13] |
Should you test in Hyderabad or somewhere else?
Use Vimta when it holds your standard and has a slot; its headline prices are low. For batteries, LED lamps, toys and helmets, or if Vimta's queue is long, go to Bengaluru, Chennai or Delhi NCR[2].
