How do you use the QCO deadline checker?

Type a product word, such as "kettle", "pressure cooker", "steel" or "slippers", and the checker lists every order whose product keywords match. Each result shows the order, its Indian Standards, its status, its start date and a link to our guide.

  1. 1
    Type a plain product word

Use the word a buyer would use: kettle, chair, cement bag, power bank. Short words work best; "fan" finds both the ceiling fan and the appliance fan orders.

  2. 2
    Read the status badge

In force means the order already applies. Notified means it has a future date. Deferred means its date was pushed back or suspended. Rescinded means the order no longer applies.

  3. 3
Check the start date and any staggered dates

Many orders give later dates to small and micro makers, for example 1 January 2027 and 1 April 2027 under the appliances order[1]. The checker shows the general date; the note gives the rest.

  4. 4
    Open the order's guide

Each result links to the QCO page or product guide with the scope, exemptions and how to get the ISI mark or CRS registration.

  5. 5
    Check the cost

If the order is in force or notified, take the product to the compliance cost estimator.

What do in force, notified, deferred and rescinded mean?

Each status tells you whether goods you import today must already carry the BIS mark.

Household appliances QCO 2026Kettles, steamers, food processors and 90 named types1 October 2026[1]

Why does the checker show kettles under the 2026 appliances QCO?

Because the umbrella order covers almost every household appliance up to 250 V that no other order already covers, and it took effect on 1 October 2026 for enterprises other than small and micro ones[1].

The order names 90 appliance types[1]. Electric kettles are not named, but the order lists appliances for heating liquids and electric water boilers[1], which is why a search for "kettle" returns it. Fabric steamers are named separately from irons[1].

The order does not apply to appliances already under another QCO or the CRS order[1]. So a search for "mixer" also returns the 2018 kitchen appliances order, and a microwave oven returns CRS: BIS's guidelines put microwave ovens and induction stoves under the CRS order[23]. When the checker returns two orders for one word, the more specific one usually governs. See the electrical appliances QCO guide.

Which QCOs were rescinded, so you no longer need BIS for those goods?

A large batch of input-material orders was withdrawn between July 2025 and January 2026. If the checker shows Rescinded, BIS certification is no longer needed under that order.

The biggest batch came on 12 November 2025, when 14 QCOs were rescinded with immediate effect, including PVC, polypropylene, polyethylene, ABS, polycarbonate and polyester fibres and yarns[7]. Seven metals QCOs, including aluminium ingot, copper, nickel and zinc, were withdrawn the next day[6]. Viscose staple fibre followed on 18 November 2025[6] and the flux cored solder wire order on 12 January 2026[6].

Two cautions. Rescinding a raw-material order does not affect finished goods made from it: a polypropylene chair still falls under the furniture QCO. And about two dozen older chemical orders, such as caustic soda and acetone, are still on BIS's list[24]. Our chemicals QCO page has the full split.

Can goods shipped before a QCO deadline still be cleared?

Sometimes, under specific relief orders. There is no general rule, so check the order.

  • February 2026 relief. S.O. 775(E) exempts imports shipped before implementation, per the Bill of Lading, with the Bill of Entry filed within 180 days, for 26 already-implemented QCOs including footwear, electrical accessories and appliances[25].
  • Old stock windows. Certified or applicant makers may sell declared pre-deadline stock for six months under the appliances order[1] and the cookware orders[22]. Footwear stock may be sold until 31 July 2027[9].
  • Transition Facilitation Order. Since 25 June 2026, DPIIT may let assessed companies source goods under 10 scheduled QCOs through BIS Scheme-II licences[5], with applications open for 24 months[5].

The checker's note field flags these where they apply. The QCO tracker has every relief order, dated.

Worked example: a fabric steamer shipment arriving in November 2026

Search "steamer" and the checker returns the household appliances QCO, In force from 1 October 2026[1].

If the foreign maker is a large enterprise, the steamer needs the ISI mark under IS 302 (Part 1):2024[1] for any shipment clearing now. If the maker's factory is not yet certified, the importer's options are narrow: the old-stock relief covers only makers that are certified or have applied[1]. The practical step is to ask the supplier for its BIS licence number or application reference before shipping, and to read our guide to electric irons and steamers.

Worked example: aluminium utensils and aluminium sheet

Search "aluminium" and the checker returns several orders with different dates, which is exactly why it is worth searching before you place an order.

  • Aluminium utensils: In force from 1 October 2026 under IS 1660:2024[26].
  • Aluminium beverage cans: Notified, with conflicting dates of 1 October 2026 in the order and 1 April 2027 on BIS's list[2]. Plan for the earlier one.
  • Wrought aluminium sheet, foil and extrusions: Notified, enforcement 1 December 2026[2].
  • Aluminium ingot: Rescinded on 13 November 2025[6].

One word, four answers. See cookware for the utensil rules.

What happens if you import goods covered by a QCO without BIS certification?

The goods cannot be cleared or sold, and the importer is exposed to action under the BIS Act. The appliances order, for example, says anyone who contravenes it is punishable under the BIS Act, 2016[1].

Enforcement also reaches marketplaces. In FY 2024-25 BIS reportedly bought 344 QCO-covered samples from e-commerce platforms, found 142 without valid certification and carried out search and seizure at 22 e-commerce warehouses[27]. Our guide to selling without BIS covers the consequences.

When should you ask us instead of relying on the checker?

The checker matches keywords, not legal scope. Ask us through the free compliance check when:

  • Nothing matches. That does not prove no order applies. BIS's Scheme-I table numbers QCOs serially up to 136[6], and we list the ones importers ask about.
  • Two orders match. Exclusions decide which one governs, as with mixers and the appliances order.
  • Your product is steel. The Steel QCO covers 151 entries, each with its own standard, and some are suspended[28]. Use the steel QCO guide.
  • The status is Deferred. Suspensions can be lifted with short notice.
  • You think you are exempt. Exemptions for exports, R&D units and small makers vary by order. BIS says coverage and exemption questions go to the issuing regulator[29]; we can help you frame them.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Quality Control Order?

A Quality Control Order is a government order under the BIS Act that makes a listed product meet an Indian Standard and carry the BIS Standard Mark. Most QCOs use the ISI mark under Scheme-I; electronics use CRS registration under Scheme-II[30].

How many QCOs are in force in India?

No official source gives a single count. BIS's Scheme-I table numbers orders up to 136[6], but many have since been rescinded or superseded. The checker covers the orders importers ask about most.

Does the electrical appliances QCO cover electric kettles?

It covers appliances for heating liquids and electric water boilers; kettles are not named, but fall in that description[1]. The order applies from 1 October 2026 for enterprises other than small and micro ones[1].

When does the aluminium products QCO start?

BIS's upcoming list shows enforcement of the wrought aluminium items from 1 December 2026[2]. Aluminium utensils have a separate date of 1 October 2026[26].

Do PVC, polypropylene and polyester still need BIS?

No. Their QCOs were among 14 rescinded with immediate effect on 12 November 2025[7]. Finished products made from them can still fall under their own orders.

When do TV sets need CRS registration under IS 18112?

MeitY deferred the date to 26 January 2027 by S.O. 4182(E)[3]. TVs already need CRS for safety; IS 18112 is the added requirement.

Can I still clear goods shipped before a QCO deadline?

Only where a relief order says so. S.O. 775(E) exempts shipments made before implementation, with the Bill of Entry filed within 180 days, for 26 listed QCOs[25]. Check whether your order is on the list.

Is the furniture QCO in force?

Yes, since 13 February 2026[5]. The 180-day relief for shipments made before that date has run out on its terms[31].

What does deferred mean in the checker?

The order's start date was pushed back, or the order was temporarily suspended. The linear alkyl benzene order, for example, was suspended twice and BIS now shows enforcement on 31 December 2026[2].

How often is the checker updated?

The data was checked against BIS's lists on 1 November 2026, and we update it with the QCO tracker. BIS's own upcoming list was last updated on 30 October 2026[2].
