How a fact gets onto a Comploa page, in 5 steps
- 1Find the official source
We start from the document that sets the rule: the Gazette of India notification, the regulator's own order or circular, or the official portal (BIS, CPCB, the Legal Metrology department, DoT, TEC, BEE, DGFT or CBIC).
- 2Record the fact with its source
Each fact is stored once, with the exact URL, the document's title and date, and the date we read it. Pages pull facts from this record rather than restating them by hand.
- 3Check it a second time, independently
A separate check re-reads the source and confirms the fact says what we recorded. If the two readings disagree, the fact is held back until the disagreement is resolved.
- 4Label it
Every citation carries a label for the kind of source it is (see below), so you can see at a glance what is official and what is not.
- 5Date it and keep it current
Each page shows when it was last updated. When a rule changes, we update the fact once and every page that uses it changes with it, and the change goes into our dated ledger of new rules.
The labels you will see next to our sources
| Label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Gazette | Published in the Gazette of India or a state gazette. The strongest source for what the law says. |
| Official portal | The regulator's or ministry's own website or online portal. |
| Official circular | An order, circular, notice or guideline issued by the regulator. |
| Court order | A judgment or order of a court or tribunal. |
| Reported | Reported by news media or industry bodies, not yet found in an official document. Shown with a warning. |
| Estimate | A range we worked out, such as typical private charges. We say how we worked it out. |
What Comploa never does
- We never present a consultant's or vendor's claim as an official rule.
- We never invent a fee, date or threshold. If we cannot find it officially, we say so.
- We never sell certificates or claim to be a government body. Comploa is an independent reference.
- We never let a referral partner pay to change what a page says.
The limits of what a page can tell you
Rules apply to a specific product model, its specifications and where it is made. A Comploa page explains the rule and how it usually applies; the authority's decision on your product always prevails. If your case is unusual, check with the authority or a qualified professional before you ship.
How corrections are made
If you spot an error or an outdated fact, tell us through the contact page with the official source if you have it. We check it, correct the fact everywhere it appears and note the change in the page's update date.
Frequently asked questions
Who writes Comploa's pages?
The Comploa Editorial Desk researches and writes every page from official documents, following the process on this page. Each fact is checked a second time against its source before it is published.
Do partners or advertisers influence what pages say?
No. Comploa runs no paid placements, and partners who receive introductions never pay to change a page. See the disclaimer.
What does 'Reported' next to a source mean?
The fact comes from news media or an industry body, not yet from an official document. We show it with a warning so you can weigh it.
How quickly are rule changes reflected?
When we see a new notification, order or circular, we update the affected facts and log the change with its date in new rules in 2026 and the QCO tracker.
How do I report an error?
Use the contact page, email [email protected] or WhatsApp +91 91760 33882, with the page and, if you have it, the official source.
