Why does Comploa exist?
India's product rules are public, but they are spread across Quality Control Orders, BIS schemes, environment rules, Legal Metrology rules, telecom rules and a dozen government portals. They change often, and the guides that explain them tend to disagree with each other, or quote fees and deadlines that stopped being true a year ago.
Small importers and new sellers usually find out what they missed when a shipment is held at the port, a marketplace delists a product, or a notice arrives from the Legal Metrology department. By then the cost is demurrage, a lost season or a penalty.
Comploa puts the rules for each product in one place, in plain English, and links every fact to the document it comes from. The goal is simple: you should know every approval your product needs, what it costs and how long it takes, before you place the order with your factory.
Who is Comploa for?
- First-time importers bringing in electronics, appliances, toys, cookware, footwear or other goods covered by Indian standards.
- Marketplace and D2C sellers who need to know what Amazon, Flipkart and customs will ask for before a listing goes live. See the guides by business type.
- Foreign manufacturers and brands entering India, who need a BIS licence in their own name and an Authorised Indian Representative.
- Customs brokers, freight forwarders and consultants who want a sourced reference to send their clients.
- Indian manufacturers who import components or sell products that fall under a Quality Control Order.
What does Comploa cover?
Every approval a product can need to be imported and sold in India, and how they fit together:
- BIS: CRS registration for electronics and IT goods, the ISI mark for goods under Quality Control Orders, and FMCS for foreign factories.
- EPR: plastic packaging, e-waste and battery registration with the CPCB.
- Legal Metrology: LMPC registration and label rules for packaged goods.
- Telecom and radio: WPC ETA and TEC MTCTE.
- Energy: the BEE star label.
These are organised by product, by approval, by Quality Control Order, by Indian Standard and by source country, with costs, checklists, government portal guides and a glossary of the terms you will meet.
Which free tools does Comploa offer?
All of the tools run in your browser, need no sign-up and use the same sourced facts as the guides:
- Approval checker: pick a product and see every approval it needs.
- HS code approval finder: start from your ITC(HS) code.
- Compliance cost estimator: add up the official government fees.
- BIS CRS fee calculator: the BIS fees for your models and years.
- QCO deadline checker: whether an order covers your product, and from when.
- Licence renewal date calculator: when your BIS, EPR, BEE or TEC approval expires.
- Label checker: what must be printed on your product and box.
How does Comploa keep its facts accurate?
Every fact is read from the gazette notification, regulator order or official portal that set it, recorded once with its source and date, and checked a second time before it is used. Each citation is labelled by the kind of source it is, so you can see what is official and what is reported. When a rule changes, the fact is updated once and every page that uses it changes with it.
The full process, the source labels and how corrections work are in our editorial policy. Rule changes are logged with dates in new rules in 2026 and the QCO tracker.
How does Comploa make money?
The guides and tools are free. Comploa earns from paid compliance plans written for a specific product, and from introducing importers who want filing help to vetted consultants and test labs, who may pay us a referral fee. Partners never pay to change what a page says, and you are free to use anyone you like. The details are in our disclaimer and partner terms.
What is Comploa not?
Comploa is not the Bureau of Indian Standards, the CPCB, the Legal Metrology department, DoT, TEC, BEE, DGFT, Customs or any other authority, and is not affiliated with any of them. Comploa issues no licence, registration or certificate, and cannot speed up or influence a decision. The authority's decision on your product always prevails. See the disclaimer and terms of use.

No. Comploa is an independent reference. It is not BIS, CPCB, DGFT, Customs or any other authority, and it issues no licence or certificate. Every page links to the official source so you can check it yourself.
Is Comploa free to use?
Yes. Every guide, checklist and tool is free, with no sign-up. The free compliance check is also free. We charge only for a written compliance plan for a specific product.

What if I find a mistake?
Tell us through the contact page, with the official source if you have it. We check it, correct it on every page that uses it and update the page date. See our editorial policy.
